Australia’s wine community pulls together for 2011 flood relief efforts

The first month of 2011 has seen the worst flood on record across an immense area of Australia, affecting Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. Queensland has taken the biggest hit with deaths topping 20 and many thousands of people losing their homes and livelihoods, as three quarters of the state is declared a disaster zone.

One of the heartening outcomes of these devastating events has been the manifestation of humanity and generosity and simple community cohesion by the country’s wine industry.

Nicola Chandler of Wine2030 writes an account of the wine industry’s response in Adversity begets generosity: The Australian wine community pulls together for 2011 flood relief efforts.
