A year on from the WRAA – statement to the wine industry

On 9 November 2009, Australia’s key wine industry bodies together produced the Wine Restructuring Action Agenda (WRAA) – a document to industry stating the main issues facing the Australian wine industry and proposed actions. One year on, these bodies have released an update on progress and ongoing action in a document entitled Wine sector must continue to focus on transition.

The three key wine industry bodies are the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA), Wine Grape Growers’ Australia (WGGA) and the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC).

The December 2010 document restates the issues facing the wine industry, which revolve around oversupply, the product mix, marketing approach, external challenges such as the strong Australian dollar and overseas competition, and the rise of cleanskins and private labels.

A number of priorities for the industry are proposed, and the WRAA partners – the WFA, AWBC and WGGA – commit to a raft of supporting initiatives.
